Washington, June 20 (SANA) The U.S. national team dominated Friday’s match against Australia, winning 2-0, for the second round of Group Four of the 2026 World Cup.
The scoring started early when American striker Folarin Balogun streaked down the left side of the field and powered a pass into the penalty area, where Australian defender Cameron Burgess booted it into his net for an own goal in the 11th minute of the match that was held at Lumen Field in Seattle.
With this result, the American team reserved its place in the second round after raising its score to 6 points at the top of the group, while the Australian team is still second with 3 points, awaiting Turkey‘s match with Paraguay at dawn on Saturday.
The US team beat Paraguay 4-1 in the first match, while the Australian team beat the Turkish team 2-0.
