Damascus, May 17 (SANA) Syrian striker Mohammed Al Wakid became the all-time leading scorer in the Syrian Premier League after netting twice in Al-Jaish SC’s 3-1 win over Jableh SC on Friday.

The 40-year-old forward raised his league tally to 170 goals, surpassing former Syria striker Raja Rafe, who previously held the record with 169 goals, according to sports records.

The goals came during Al-Jaish’s Syrian Premier League match against Jableh at Al-Fayhaa Stadium in the 22nd round of the competition.

Mohamad Alaa Weiss added Al-Jaish’s third goal, while Abdul Razzaq Fiston scored for Jableh.

Sports records list the league’s leading scorers as Al Wakid with 170 goals, followed by Raja Rafe with 169, Aref Al Agha with 162, Ziad Chabo with 123 and Ahmad Omaier with 102.

The victory lifted Al-Jaish to eighth place in the standings with 31 points, while Jableh remained 13th with 19 points.

Al Wakid has played for clubs in Syria, Iraq, Bahrain and Lebanon. He made his Syria debut in 2019. He has won the Syrian Premier League top scorer award four times. He also scored the first goal of his professional career against Jableh in 2004.

Founded in 1966, the 16-team Syrian Premier League is topped historically by Al-Jaish SC with 17 titles, ahead of Al-Karamah with eight.
