Latakia, May 9 (SANA) Latakia Sports City hosted the Ugarit Race for Purebred Arabian Horses on Friday, with the participation of 117 horses from various Syrian governorates.
Latakia Governor Mohammad Othman told SANA that the race reflects the authenticity and rich history of the Syrian people, adding that Latakia is reclaiming its role as a hub for tourism and sports for all Syrians.
Othman said that the governorate is making strenuous efforts to promote sports and become a center for attracting numerous sport activities at both the local and international levels.
Othman revealed that the current Ugarit Race serves as a preparatory stage for the UAE State Cup International Race for Arabian Horses, scheduled to take place in October of this year, with Latakia being one of its host stages

Adnan Ous, Director of the Media Office at the Directorate of Sports and Youth in Latakia, highlighted the significance of the race, noting the participation of all governorates with 117 purebred Arabian horses.
Meanwhile, trainer and competitor Louai Askar from Aleppo expressed his enthusiasm at participating in the Ugarit Race and celebrated his first-place victory in the third category of the fourth heat aboard his horse “al-Muhallal
The Ugarit Race for Purebred Arabian Horses was held under the patronage of the Latakia Governorate, in cooperation with the Directorates of Sports and Youth, Agriculture, and Tourism.
The event comes within the framework of supporting equestrian sports, preserving the heritage of purebred Arabian horses, and revitalizing sports and tourism activities in Latakia Governorate.
