Paris, Jan.18 (SANA) Lens regained the lead of the French football league on Saturday, moving one point clear of defending champions Paris Saint-Germain after defeating Auxerre 1-0 in a Matchday 18 fixture.
The hosts secured the three points thanks to winger Wesley Saïd, who scored the only goal of the match in the 65th minute. The strike marked Saïd’s eighth league goal of the season.
The victory extended Lens’ winning streak to 10 consecutive matches across all competitions, equaling the longest run in the club’s history, previously achieved during the 1960s.
Coached by Pierre Sage, Lens reclaimed first place from Paris Saint-Germain, who had moved to the top a day earlier after a 3-0 win over Lille in the opening match of the round.
Lens now lead the standings with 43 points, one ahead of Paris Saint-Germain on 42.
