Damascus, Sep. 29 (SANA) The Syrian Arab Republic welcomed the Japanese Cabinet’s decision to partially lift measures imposed on Syria since 2011 under the ousted regime by removing 16 Syrian entities from the list subject to those measures. The entities include the ministries of Defense and Interior and a number of institutions and companies operating in the banking, oil, telecommunications and media sectors. The move follows Japan’s partial lifting of measures in May 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates described the decision as a positive and important step reflecting Japan’s recognition of developments in Syria, the Syrian government’s efforts toward recovery and state-building, and its interest in developing bilateral relations.
The ministry said the decision would help national institutions carry out their roles, strengthen security and stability, and support recovery and reconstruction efforts.
The Syrian Arab Republic expressed its appreciation to the Japanese government for the step and for the humanitarian and development support it has provided to the Syrian people over the past years.
Syria also welcomed Japan’s decision to maintain measures against the ousted regime’s leadership and its symbols, affiliated entities and those involved in crimes committed against Syrians.
The Syrian Arab Republic expressed its aspiration to deepen strategic partnerships with Japan and the international community in a manner that serves common interests and supports stability and development in Syria.
