Damascus, Sep. 9 (SANA) President Ahmad al-Sharaa and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani received Wednesday Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Damascus to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, President al-Sharaa conveyed his greetings to King Abdullah II and affirmed the depth of the fraternal ties between Syria and Jordan, stressing the two countries’ commitment to strengthening relations and expanding cooperation in various fields in a manner that serves their shared interests and the interests of their two peoples.
Safadi conveyed the Jordanian king’s greetings to President al-Sharaa and affirmed Jordan’s support for Syria and its commitment to strengthening the historic fraternal relationship between the two countries.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and reviewed the latest regional developments.
Al-Shaibani and Safadi then held expanded talks, affirming their commitment to building on the continued progress in Syrian-Jordanian relations and advancing them toward a comprehensive strategic partnership. They also stressed the importance of strengthening operational and institutional cooperation across various fields.
The two ministers discussed preparations for the third session of the Higher Coordination Council, scheduled to be held in Damascus in October, as well as follow-up on the implementation of the outcomes of its second session, held in Amman in April.
They stressed the need to translate the agreements reached into practical steps, particularly in trade, investment, transport, customs, water, energy and other priority sectors, in a way that serves the interests of both countries and their peoples.
Safadi reaffirmed Jordan’s firm support for Syria’s reconstruction efforts on foundations that safeguard its unity, sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity, protect its citizens and preserve the rights of all Syrians. He stressed that Syria’s security and stability are a cornerstone of regional security and stability.
Safadi also welcomed the announcement of the dissolution of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and their integration into Syria’s military institutions, describing it as an important step toward strengthening the unity, security and stability of the Syrian Arab Republic. He affirmed Jordan’s support for all efforts aimed at strengthening Syria’s unity and sovereignty and the cohesion of its institutions.
The two ministers also discussed developments in southern Syria and efforts to implement the joint roadmap concerning Sweida province and stability in southern Syria, based on the unity of Syrian territory and aimed at safeguarding the security and rights of all Syrian citizens and ensuring the Syrian state’s sovereignty over all its territory.
Al-Shaibani and Safadi renewed their condemnation of repeated Israeli attacks and incursions into Syrian territory, stressing the need to halt them as a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a blatant breach of international law and Israel’s obligations under the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The ministers warned of the repercussions of continued Israeli attacks on Syria’s security and stability and on regional security and stability, particularly as the Syrian government focuses on reconstruction and ensuring the country’s security and stability while pursuing a diplomatic approach to address outstanding issues and achieve de-escalation.
Al-Shaibani and Safadi stressed the need to end the Israeli occupation of Syrian territories it has occupied, respect Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and halt all interventions targeting its security and stability.
The two ministers also reviewed regional developments and underscored the importance of continued coordination and consultation, supporting efforts to end escalation, restore calm and achieve sustainable security and stability through a comprehensive solution that addresses the underlying causes of tension.
Al-Shaibani and Safadi condemned Iranian attacks on Jordan and other Arab countries and affirmed full solidarity in confronting such attacks.
Al-Shaibani affirmed that the Syrian Arab Republic stands with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and other Arab countries in all measures they take to protect their territory, sovereignty and security from repeated Iranian attacks.
The two ministers agreed to maintain consultations and communication and strengthen coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries to follow up on cooperation tracks and implement agreements reached, further strengthening the fraternal relationship and serving the interests of the two countries and their peoples.
