Amman, Aug. 25 (SANA) Jordan welcomed the United States’ decision to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Majali said on Tuesday, according to Petra News Agency, that the decision marks an important step toward supporting Syria’s reconstruction efforts, advancing its recovery and helping its people achieve their aspirations for development and prosperity. He also commended U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts that led to the decision.

Majali reaffirmed Jordan’s steadfast position in supporting Syria’s reconstruction on foundations that safeguard its unity, sovereignty, security, stability and territorial integrity, as well as the safety of its citizens and the rights of all Syrians.

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control issued an official update to its sanctions regulations on Monday, announcing Syria’s removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism after the legal process involving congressional review concluded without objection.
