Damascus, May.18 (SANA) “The Syrian Arab Republic has expressed appreciation for the EU’s decision to lift sanctions imposed on seven Syrian governmental entities, including the Ministries of Interior and Defense, while renewing sanctions against figures linked to the deposed regime and who committed violations against the Syrian people”, the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on Monday.
The Ministry stressed in its statement that this step would support recovery and reconstruction efforts and enhance the ability of official institutions to fulfill their duties in serving citizens and consolidating security and stability.
It added that the decision also contributes to the path toward stability and supports the new Syria founded on the rule of law and institutions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates reiterated Syria’s commitment to openness and constructive cooperation with the international community on the basis of mutual respect and the safeguarding of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, in a manner that serves the interests of the Syrian people and supports the process of reconstruction and economic and political recovery.
Foreign Minister: EU sanctions relief supports cooperation and reconstruction efforts
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani welcomed the European Union’s decision to lift sanctions imposed on a number of Syrian governmental entities, including the Ministries of Interior and Defense.
Al-Shaibani voiced appreciation at the same time for the renewal of sanctions imposed on officials linked to the deposed implicated involved in crimes committed against the Syrian people.
He affirmed Syria’s aspiration to enhance cooperation with its partners in the European Union in a manner that serves the interests of the Syrian people and is based on mutual respect and shared interests, while supporting the path of reconstruction and recovery.
