Damascus, May 15 (SANA) Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Kabawat on Friday discussed with Spain’s Special Envoy to Syria Antonio González-Zavala and Chargé d’Affaires of the Spanish Embassy in Damascus Francisco Javier Puga Llopis ways to reactivate the 1978 cooperation agreement between Syria and the European Union, and restore trade, economic, and political relations.
The Ministry of Social Affairs said via its Telegram channel on Friday that the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, addressed prospects for enhancing joint cooperation between Syria and EU countries, and developing bilateral relations in social, developmental, and economic fields in support of recovery efforts and improving living conditions.
During the meeting, Minister Kabawat was also invited to participate in a conference on women, peace, and security in the Middle East, scheduled to be held at Casa Árabe in Spain, with the participation of political figures, diplomats, and international experts.
Both sides stressed the importance of continuing dialogue and coordination on issues of mutual interest, and strengthening cooperation in a way that serves the interests of both sides.
On April 17, a document issued by the European Union revealed plans to reactivate the cooperation agreement signed with Syria in 1978, which aimed to enhance trade, economic, and financial relations, and indicated that the EU would begin a high-level political dialogue with the Syrian government.
