Baghdad, Feb. 3 (SANA) Iraq’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday welcomed the ceasefire and integration agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reiterating its support for Syria’s unity and stability.
The ministry said in a statement that Iraq “welcomes the comprehensive ceasefire agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which includes understandings to integrate these forces into Syrian state institutions, thereby contributing to stability and supporting the political process.”
The ministry described the deal as “a positive step” that underscores the importance of dialogue and understanding among all Syrian parties, ensuring the protection of the rights of all communities and their fair participation in state institutions on the basis of “citizenship and peaceful coexistence.”
It reaffirmed Iraq’s consistent position in backing Syria’s sovereignty and independence, as well as its solidarity with the Syrian people in their aspirations for security, stability and lasting peace.
On Friday, the Syrian government announced that it had reached a comprehensive agreement with the SDF, including the phased integration of military and administrative structures, the deployment of security forces in the centers of Hasakah and Qamishli, and the state’s takeover of all civil institutions, crossings and border points.
