Copenhagen, Jan.31 (SANA)– Denmark announced its intention to reopen its embassy in Syria during the current year, following a 14-year closure.
According to a statement published Friday on the official website of Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen stated before the Foreign Policy Committee in Copenhagen, that “the Danish embassy in Damascus, which has been closed since 2012, will be reopened during the current year.”
Rasmussen added that reopening the embassy will enable the Danish government to follow developments in Syria more closely in a positive manner, enhance cooperation with the Syrian government in several areas, including the issue of the return of displaced Syrians to their homeland.
He also noted that he discussed this matter with Foreign and Expatriates Syrian Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani during his visit to Damascus last November.
