Damascus, Jan. 18 (SANA) U.S. Special Envoy Thomas Barrack on Sunday expressed Washington’s welcome for the ceasefire agreement and the full integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into Syria’s state institutions, noting that the accord “represents a pivotal turning point paving the way for renewed dialogue and cooperation toward a unified Syria.” Barrack said in a post on X.
Barrack added, “President Ahmad al-Sharaa has affirmed that the Kurds are an integral part of Syria. The United States looks forward to smoothly integrating our historic partner in the fight against ISIS with the latest member of the international coalition, as we advance in the ongoing counterterrorism effort.”
The envoy emphasized that “the hard work begins now to finalize the details of a comprehensive integration agreement,” and affirmed U.S. backing, which “contributes to protecting vital interests in defeating ISIS remnants and advancing President Donald Trump’s ambitious Middle East peace plan.”
Barrack also noted that the U.S. is “highly encouraged by this sustained momentum in countering ISIS threats, which will facilitate the long-term engagement of Kurdish partners in a unified and inclusive Syria that safeguards the rights and interests of all its citizens and supports shared goals for national reconciliation and unity.”
The agreement was officially signed today by President Ahmad Al-Sharaa, marking the start of SDF integration into Syrian government institutions.
