Beirut, Jan 12 (SANA) Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reaffirmed that relations with Syria are strong, with ongoing security and military coordination between the two nations.
In an interview with Lebanon TV on Sunday, Aoun highlighted that Lebanon’s Minister of Agriculture recently visited Syria, while a judicial committee regularly travels there under the oversight of Lebanon’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice. Discussions focus on detainees, with a judicial approach being used to address the issue. He added that security and military coordination remain active, alongside regular exchange visits aimed at addressing various bilateral issues.
Aoun also shared that he had met with President Ahmad al-Sharaa on two occasions. He said President al-Sharaa is particularly enthusiastic about advancing bilateral relations and suggested a review of existing agreements between the two countries. He also called for increased investment by Lebanese businessmen in Syria. Aoun added that he agreed, especially in light of recent regional changes and developments.
The Lebanese President emphasized that President al-Sharaa views Syria’s interests as closely tied to Lebanon’s, and vice versa. He added that a formal summit could occur once key milestones are reached. Currently, both governments are focused on issues such as border demarcation and resolving the detainee cases, expressing optimism that both matters will be addressed soon.
