Washington, Dec.10 (SANA) U.S. Congressman, Marlin Stutzman, said that there are enough votes in the House of Representatives to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria under the “Caesar Act.”
“Members of Congress avoided including -the Snapback- mechanism that would automatically reimpose sanctions if developments occurred in Syria, and instead moved toward the option of lifting the sanctions completely,” Stutzman said in a post on his account on the “X” platform.
“We saw that the wiser path is to give Syrians a real chance to rise without restrictions that hinder their recovery, Stutzman said, adding that his recent visit to Syria showed that the Syrian people are not seeking external aid as much as they want the opportunity to rebuild themselves and their country.
He added: “President Ahmad al-Sharaa did not ask the United States for money or military support, but only for lifting the sanctions so that the Syrian people can stand on their own feet.”
The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote later today on the final version of the Defense Department budget, which includes a special clause to cancel the Caesar Act that was imposed on Syria in December 2019 due to war crimes committed by the deposed regime against the Syrian people.
