Geneva, Jan. 23 (SANA) The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, described Syria’s efforts to resolve outstanding issues related to the deposed regime’s nuclear activities as “positive and constructive.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Grossi told UAE’s The National that IAEA inspectors have yet to fully account for and verify all remnants of Syria’s past nuclear program. He stressed the need for inspectors to return to the country to complete work at sites linked to previous nuclear activities.
Earlier, Grossi said current cooperation between Syria and the IAEA marks a genuine step toward transparency and building mutual trust. The agency has launched a new verification process after the Syrian government agreed to full and transparent collaboration.
Last September, Syria reaffirmed its commitment to working with the IAEA during the agency’s 69th General Conference in Vienna, stating it is ready to responsibly address all outstanding issues.
