Trump: Syria is working to become a prosperous state

Washington, Dec 01 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that the Syrian government is working to build a “real and prosperous state,” stressing that the lifting of what he described as “very strong and biting” sanctions had played a central role in supporting Syria’s recovery.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Washington is “very satisfied” with the results achieved so far in Syria, attributing the progress to “hard work and determination,” and said “the United States is doing everything within its power to make sure the Syrian government continues along its development path.

“It is very important that Israel maintains a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous state,” Trump said.

He added that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa is working hard to ensure positive outcomes, expressing hope that both Syria and Israel would have “a long and prosperous relationship together.”

“This is a historic opportunity, and adds to the success already attained, for peace in the Middle East,” Trump said.

The remarks come weeks after President al-Sharaa’s official visit to Washington on November 9, during which he held talks at the White House with President Trump. The meeting was attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other officials.

The talks focused on strengthening Syrian-American bilateral relations, lifting sanctions and expanding cooperation across a range of political, economic and development sectors.
