U.S. envoy Barrack hails Syria’s progress, backs al-Sharaa’s reform efforts

U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack expressed his country’s optimism about the Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s ability to bring stability and prosperity to Syria, praising the progress the country has made over the past 11 months.

Speaking at the 21st IISS Manama Dialogue 2025 forum, Barrack said “the United States has proposed several initiatives to support Syria in addressing issues related to refugees and displaced persons, in addition to helping resolve the chemical weapons file left by the former regime”.

Barrack noted that “Syria has held constructive discussions with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) regarding the March 10 agreement, aimed at reinforcing stability and consolidating efforts to face ongoing challenges”.

He added that “relations between Syria and Turkey are based on shared and constructive foundations, highlighting strong interest among many Turkish companies in exploring investment opportunities inside Syria”.
