Washington eases export controls to Syria after lifting sanctions

Washington, Sana – Bureau of Industry and Security in U.S. Department of Commerce announced a new regulatory rule that eases licensing requirements for civilian exports to Syria.

The ministry said in a statement posted on its official website that the rule comes in implementation of the policy related to Syria in accordance with Executive Order No. 14312 issued on June 30, which stipulated the lifting of sanctions imposed on Syria and the United States’ commitment to supporting it in a stable and unified manner.

The ministry indicated that the decision includes exemptions that allow for easing restrictions imposed on exports, in a move it said aims to facilitate the arrival of goods for civilian uses to Syria.

It noted that the new procedures facilitate the granting of licenses for exports related to communications infrastructure, sanitation, power generation, and civil aviation.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Security, Jeffrey Kessler, pointed out that the measures announced today come in implementation of the promise of the administration of President Donald Trump to give the Syrian people a new beginning towards a stable and prosperous future.
