Washington, Dec. 14 (SANA) U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen said that the terrorist attack targeting a joint Syrian–U.S. security patrol near the city of Palmyra underscores the urgent need to strengthen Syria’s capacity to combat terrorism.
In a post on the X platform, Shaheen expressed her condolences, saying: “My deepest condolences go out to the families of the American soldiers and the interpreter who lost their lives in the fight against terrorism today.” She added that “this senseless attack highlights the urgent need to bolster Syria’s ability to confront our shared enemies, such as ISIS.”
Earlier on Saturday, Syrian security forces and U.S. forces came under fire from a gunman near Palmyra, resulting in the deaths of two U.S. soldiers and a civilian interpreter, and injuries to two Syrian security personnel.
