Riyadh, Oct. 13 (SANA) Saudi Arabia has stressed its readiness to protect citizens, residents and vital infrastructure following a series of attacks on its airports, while Information Minister Salman Al-Dossary urged the public to rely on official sources and avoid circulating unverified information about security operations.
Speaking at the 37th government press conference in Riyadh, Al-Dossary condemned attacks attributed to the Houthi militia on civilians, civilian facilities and vital infrastructure, saying they reflected disregard for international law and moral and religious principles.
Airport attacks and casualties
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation reported that an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday, Oct. 10, killed 12 people and injured 309. Subsequent reporting raised the death toll to 13 after another victim died from injuries sustained in the attack.
A separate attack targeted King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, Oct. 11, killing one person and injuring 11 others, according to Saudi authorities. The victim was identified as a Pakistani national.
Saudi authorities also confirmed that King Fahd International Airport in Dammam was targeted. The available statement did not specify casualties from that incident.
Saudi Arabia stresses readiness
Al-Dossary said the Kingdom would continue protecting its security and national resources, adding that the attacks would strengthen unity and resolve.
He said the threats extended to sites associated with Mecca and Medina and facilities serving pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques, including airports receiving large numbers of travelers. He stressed that protecting civilians remained a priority.
The minister said military, security, health and service agencies were coordinating their response and that the Kingdom had the capabilities to address aerial, missile and drone threats.
He added that daily life was continuing normally and that heightened readiness did not necessarily indicate an imminent threat, but reflected preparations for different scenarios. Emergency plans were being updated to maintain essential services and protect vital facilities.
Al-Dossary urged the public to obtain information from official sources and refrain from circulating images, videos or reports about security and military operations from unknown or unreliable sources.
