Deir Ezzor, March 29 (SANA) – Rehabilitation work has begun on two public bakeries in Deir Ezzor as part of a project implemented by the Syrian Bakeries Establishment in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and funded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, officials said.
Mohammad al-Kitab, director of the Syrian Bakeries Establishment in Deir Ezzor, said the project aims to restore four bakeries in the city in stages to improve bread production and meet growing local demand.
He said the initial phase focuses on repairing buildings and infrastructure, while the second phase will involve installing and upgrading production lines to increase output and improve bread quality.
According to al-Kitab, the automatic bakery will be equipped with two additional production lines, while the diesel-powered bakery in the al-Joura neighborhood will undergo structural repairs and upgrades to its production system.
He said cooperation with UNDP will help enhance the capacity of local bakeries and ensure the supply of bread in sufficient quantities for residents across the province.
Officials said demand for bread has increased with the return of displaced families to Deir Ezzor, making the rehabilitation of damaged bakeries necessary to ease pressure on existing facilities.
