New York, Aug. 11 (SANA) The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) recorded 552 Israeli violations in southern Lebanon between Friday and Sunday, including 455 shells fired by the Israeli army at various sites and areas, and 97 violations of Lebanese airspace, most involving drones, in addition to helicopters and fighter jets.

UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said during a press conference, as quoted by UN News, that “the 229 shells fired by the Israeli army on Saturday represent the highest number recorded by UNIFIL since June 21,” adding that the UN force also recorded an airstrike in the al-Mansouri area in the western sector on Sunday morning.

Haq said UNIFIL personnel continue to monitor the movements of Israeli forces at sea within Lebanese territorial waters, noting that two vessels belonging to Israeli forces were spotted last Friday.

UNIFIL personnel also observed two Israeli tanks firing three shells eastward, which landed around 200 meters from the UNIFIL position in Mays al-Jabal in the eastern sector, in addition to around 30 rounds of small arms fire toward the same area.

During operations within its area of deployment, UNIFIL discovered weapons, unexploded ordnance and explosive devices. A joint patrol by UNIFIL and the Lebanese Army also found last Friday a 107mm rocket launcher carrying one rocket, along with several additional rockets, on the side of a road in Froun in the eastern sector.

On Sunday, UNIFIL found two items of unexploded ordnance in Deir Mimas and Mays al-Jabal, which were rendered safe. It also discovered two explosive devices in Sarbin in the western sector, which were destroyed in place.

UNIFIL had recorded the firing of 113 shells by the Israeli army last Wednesday.
