London, Aug. 8 (SANA) The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Saturday that a vessel was hit by an unidentified projectile while sailing in waters near the Strait of Hormuz, off the coast of the Sultanate of Oman.
In a statement, UKMTO said the incident occurred 18 nautical miles east of the Omani city of Khasab, adding that the projectile caused a fire aboard the vessel, which the crew managed to extinguish and bring under control.
UKMTO said the vessel and its crew were reported safe and that no environmental impact had been reported in the area.
The agency added that authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
UKMTO urged vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
