Arab League warns escalation in Yemen threatens regional security and stability

 
Cairo, Aug. 7 (SANA) Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on Friday condemned attacks attributed to the Houthis that targeted Saudi Arabia’s Najran region, and referred to reported attacks on Yemeni military positions in Marib and Hadramout that left people dead and wounded.
 
In a statement published on X, the Arab League chief said that targeting Saudi territory and endangering civilians, along with continued military escalation in Yemen, represented a dangerous course that threatens regional security and stability and undermines efforts toward de-escalation and a political settlement.
 
He expressed the Arab League’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in confronting attacks targeting its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and called for an end to attacks and the ongoing escalation in Yemen.
 
The Arab League chief stressed that the current phase requires ending escalation, exercising restraint to prevent actions that could widen the conflict, and returning to the political track in a way that safeguards Saudi Arabia’s security and Yemen’s stability, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
 
The statement came after Brig. Gen. Turki al-Malki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition supporting the Yemeni government, said early Friday that 11 civilians were injured in an attack attributed to the Houthis in Najran.
 
Meanwhile, the Yemeni Armed Forces’ Joint Operations Command said that 17 soldiers and officers were killed and others wounded in an attack involving ballistic missiles and drones against military positions in Hadramout and Marib.
