Occupied Jerusalem, Sept. 8 (SANA) The Palestinian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned Nauru’s opening of an embassy in occupied Jerusalem, calling the move a violation of Palestinian rights and international resolutions that would further entrench the Israeli occupation.
The ministry said in a statement posted on X that opening the embassy in occupied Jerusalem challenges the longstanding international consensus on the city and violates United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council resolutions 476 and 478.
It said the move encourages the Israeli occupation authorities to continue their settlement policies, violations and crimes against the Palestinian people while providing cover for attempts to impose an illegal fait accompli in Jerusalem.
The ministry called on friendly countries and regional and international organizations to shoulder their responsibilities and oppose steps that could entrench the occupation or legitimize its illegal control over Jerusalem.
It also urged greater efforts to protect the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Nauru is a small Pacific island nation with a population of about 12,000 and a land area of roughly 21 square kilometers.
