Daraa Dec. 13 (SANA) Thirty-three people were injured in an explosion that struck a wedding celebration on Friday evening in the town of Abidin in western Daraa.
Daraa Health Director, Dr. Ziad al-Mahamid, told SANA that there were children among the wounded, stressing that the Health Directorate is closely monitoring all cases and providing necessary medical care.
Al-Mahamid added that emergency response plans were activated and patients were admitted across several facilities to avoid overwhelming a single institution.
In a separate statement, Muwaffaq Mahmoud, head of the Abidin and Maariya Municipal Council, said that “unknown assailants threw two hand grenades directly at the wedding venue, injuring a number of attendees.”
He explained that injuries ranged from mild to moderate, with one serious case involving a leg amputation.
Meanwhile, Jamal Al-Ibrahim, mayor of the town, reported that an Israeli occupation patrol consisting of three vehicles was stationed west of the nearby village of Al-Arida following the blast. He clarified that the patrol did not approach the site of the incident and remained in its usual position.
