Emergency Ministry Continues Response Efforts to Aftermath of Sweida Incidents

Damascus, SANA-Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed al-Saleh, affirmed that the ministry has continued its response and coordination efforts through a joint operations room that includes the governorates of Daraa and Sweida, relevant ministries and institutions, along with several humanitarian organizations.

Minister al-Saleh stated in a post on X “The number of displaced persons within Sweida Governorate has exceeded 170,000,” noting that the ministry oversees the operation of two corridors between Sweida and Daraa, through which more than 15,000 citizens have been secured passage out of Sweida, while approximately 3,000 people have entered through them.

The Minister pointed out that the number of established shelter centers has reached 84, including 62 in Daraa Governorate housing around 30,000 citizens, and 22 centers in the Sayyida Zainab area in the Damascus countryside, accommodating about 3,500 people.

He stressed that residents in these centers are facing difficult living conditions, and the ministry, in cooperation with governmental and humanitarian entities, is working to secure basic needs and ensure an effective response.

Minister al-Saleh concluded by saying: “We affirm that protecting lives remains the ministry’s top priority, and that preserving the dignity of citizens, especially during moments of displacement, is a fundamental principle that cannot be compromised until their safe and voluntary return to their homes.”
