OCHA: Israel’s road closures hamper humanitarian response in Gaza

Occupied Jerusalem, Jan. 8 (SANA) The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has affirmed that fuel shortages and road closures are significantly hindering humanitarian efforts in the Gaza Strip.

OCHA said in a report, quoted by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) on Wednesday , that while fuel shipments have resumed, ongoing access restrictions, congestion, and limited storage capacity continue to increase costs and delay aid delivery.

The agency noted that United Nations partners have resumed distributing monthly food rations for the first time since October 2023, reaching 100,000 people. Since the ceasefire, 35 health service points have been reactivated, and 25 new points established, including 12 primary healthcare centers, mostly in northern Gaza.

Temporary learning spaces have also expanded to 424 sites, including two spaces opened on January 3–4.

Gaza continues to face severe humanitarian and health challenges, as its healthcare system deteriorates amid the consequences of the war that began on 7 October 2023, which has resulted in over 71,000 deaths and more than 171,000 injuries among Palestinians.
