Damascus, April 22 (SANA) Syria’s Transport Minister Yarub Badr met on Tuesday with Hiroshi Takabayashi, head of the U.N. Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in Syria, to discuss cooperation on infrastructure rehabilitation and transport development projects.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, focused on the rehabilitation of the cement factory bridge in Rastan city, with officials noting that restoration work is nearing completion.

Badr stressed the importance of reopening the road beneath the bridge without delay to ensure smooth traffic flow, adding that similar development projects would be expanded to other areas.

The two sides also explored cooperation on technical studies for railway investment projects across several governorates, including Aleppo, Homs and Daraa.

Takabayashi reaffirmed UN-Habitat’s commitment to supporting Syria’s efforts to rehabilitate key infrastructure, saying the program will continue to provide technical and advisory support.

The cement factory bridge is located on the Homs–Hama international highway (M5) in the northern countryside of Homs. It serves as a key transport link connecting both sides of the road and ensuring traffic continuity along one of Syria’s main corridors.

The cooperation between the Transport Ministry and UN-Habitat is part of broader efforts to strengthen international partnerships supporting infrastructure rehabilitation and reconstruction.
