Congo and Rwanda Sign US- sponsored Peace Deal

Washington, SANA-The Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda signed a peace agreement in Washington on Friday, mediated by the United States to help end decades of ongoing fighting between the two sides.

“This step represents a pivotal moment after 30 years of war,” The Associated Press quoted U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who hosted Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayumba Wagner and Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe in Washington, as saying.

The agreement includes rules as Territorial integrity guarantees, Cessation of hostilities, Armed group disengagement, Disarmament protocols and Conditional integration of non-state armed groups.

This marks a critical step toward stabilizing the Central African nation, where Conflict among 100 Rwandan-backed armed groups has persisted since the 1990s Millions have died in Africa’s.
