Kuwait City, April 5 (SANA) Kuwait said its air defenses intercepted missiles and drones over its airspace, while a drone strike sparked a fire at an oil complex in the capital on Sunday, as a series of attacks hit key infrastructure across the Gulf state.
Kuwait’s military said late Saturday that air defense systems shot down incoming missiles and drones over the country, with explosions heard across parts of the capital resulting from interception operations.
In a statement carried by the state news agency KUNA, the Kuwaiti Army’s General Staff said air defenses had “intercepted hostile missile and drone attacks,” urging residents to follow official safety guidance. The military said similar attacks had been repelled the previous night.
Early Sunday, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation said a fire broke out at an oil sector complex in the Shuwaikh area of Kuwait City after a drone strike, adding that no casualties were reported.
Emergency and firefighting teams were deployed immediately and were working to contain the blaze and assess damage, KUNA reported.
The latest incident follows a series of Iranian attacks on critical facilities in recent days. On Friday, the state oil company said drones struck the Mina al-Ahmadi refinery, one of the country’s largest, igniting fires in several operational units.
Elsewhere, Kuwait’s Finance Ministry said a government complex in the capital was hit by Iranian drones, causing material damage but no injuries.
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said two power generation and water desalination plants were also targeted by drones, resulting in significant damage without casualties.
The attacks come amid heightened regional tensions, with Gulf countries reporting repeated drone and missile strikes as part of an ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
