New York, Sept. 23 (SANA) Jordan’s King Abdullah II said lasting stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved without securing Palestinians’ full legitimate rights and establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.
King Abdullah made the remarks during a meeting with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to Jordan’s Petra news agency.
The Jordanian monarch warned of what he described as the dangers of Israeli measures aimed at annexing land and expanding settlements in the West Bank, as well as repeated violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
He called for intensified international efforts to restore regional stability, stressing the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving conflicts.
Guterres commended Jordan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and internationally, as well as its cooperation with U.N. agencies, Petra reported.
The General Debate of the 81st U.N. General Assembly opened Tuesday in New York and is scheduled to conclude on Sept. 28.
