Manama, May 5 (SANA) Bahrain and the United Kingdom discussed the regional implications of the reported closure of the Strait of Hormuz, warning of potential risks to global shipping routes, international trade and energy markets.
During a phone call on Monday, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper emphasized the need to support coordinated efforts through the United Nations Security Council to uphold freedom of navigation and strengthen maritime security, according to Bahrain’s state news agency (BNA).
The two sides also underlined the importance of cooperation and coordination within the council to address developments in the strategic waterway.
The discussions come as tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz continue to intensify, raising concerns over possible disruptions to global supply chains.
Recent developments in the area have heightened uncertainty for maritime traffic, amid ongoing pressures affecting regional navigation and shipping activity.
