Aden, Sept. 23 (SANA) Yemeni government forces said Tuesday they had taken full control of strategic Mount Qarfan in southern Taiz province following clashes with Houthi fighters.
Maj. Gen. Abdulaziz al-Majidi, chief of staff of the Taiz military axis, said in a statement that government forces, backed by local resistance fighters, had secured Mount Qarfan in the Harad Jardad area of Ash Shamaytayn district.
Al-Majidi said the clashes killed more than five Houthi fighters and wounded about 20 others.
Mount Qarfan lies within a mountain range in southern Taiz and is considered a strategically important position in the area.
The announcement came amid continued fighting between government forces and the Houthis in several parts of Yemen.
On Monday, Yemeni government forces said they had targeted Houthi fighters and supply lines in the Bab al-Mandab area and Al-Bayda province and had shot down a Houthi reconnaissance drone on the Al-Kadha front, southwest of Taiz.
