Doha, Feb. 4 (SANA) QatarEnergy and Malaysia’s national oil and gas company Petronas signed on Wednesday a 20-year sales and purchase agreement to supply two million tons of liquefied natural gas annually from Qatar to Malaysia, starting in 2028.
According to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the agreement was signed by Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, and Petronas President and Group CEO Tengku Muhammad Taufik, on the sidelines of the 21st International Conference on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG2026) in Doha.
Al Kaabi said the agreement reflects QatarEnergy’s commitment to supporting Malaysia’s growing energy needs. QNA noted that this is the first long-term LNG supply agreement between QatarEnergy and Petronas, strengthening bilateral cooperation and supporting a sustainable energy future.
Qatar is a major global power in the natural gas market, holding the third-largest proven natural gas reserves worldwide. It is among the leading exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG), supplying around one-fifth of global LNG trade in recent years.
