Washington, Sept. 19 (SANA) US President Donald Trump has signed legislation expanding sanctions on Russia and Iran, granting the US administration authority to impose tariffs of up to 100% on countries that purchase Russian oil and gas.

The White House said in a statement published on its website on Friday that Trump signed the law, known as the “Lindsey Graham Act to Impose Sanctions on Russia and Iran for 2026,” which expands sanctions, tariffs and legal restrictions on Russia and extends some existing sanctions on Iran.

The legislation targets Russia’s energy, defense and financial sectors, as well as what is known as the “shadow fleet” of oil tankers used to circumvent sanctions. It also allows sanctions to be imposed on Russian officials and entities, as well as parties that assist Moscow in evading restrictions.

The US House of Representatives approved the bill by a vote of 262-159 on September 16, after it was passed by the Senate in August by a vote of 86-12.
