Washington, Sept. 17 (SANA) U.S. President Donald Trump said he hoped the war with Iran was nearing an end as he prepared to meet Gulf leaders on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York next week.
The meeting, expected Tuesday, will bring together leaders or foreign ministers from Gulf Cooperation Council countries to discuss developments in the conflict and possible next steps, Axios reported, citing sources familiar with the plans.
The talks are expected to focus on U.S. proposals for a postwar strategy as Trump and his administration work on plans for the period after the fighting ends, according to Axios.
Trump reiterated that Iran wanted to reach an agreement, saying Washington had received that message directly from Tehran. The White House has not commented on the planned meeting.
The U.S. State Department has begun sending initial invitations to Gulf countries, Axios reported. One source told the outlet that the meeting could be expanded to include leaders from other Arab and Muslim countries.
