Islamabad, Sept. 14 (SANA) Four miners were killed and five others injured in a methane explosion at a coal mine in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province.

The Pakistani Armed Forces said in a statement posted on X that the explosion occurred on Sunday evening at a mine in Harnai, killing four miners and injuring five others.

The blast occurred at PMDC Coal Mine 151 in the Shahrag area of Harnai district after methane accumulated inside the mine, triggering a fire and trapping workers underground, according to Dawn.

Army emergency response teams carried out a difficult rescue operation and managed to rescue five miners trapped inside the mine, the statement said.

The injured miners received initial medical treatment before being referred to Quetta for further care.

In late July, 34 miners were killed in an explosion at a coal mine in the same province.
