Washington, Sept. 10 (SANA) The U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced that U.S. forces carried out a military strike on a speedboat in the Caribbean Sea early Thursday, killing three people, alleging their involvement in drug trafficking.
In a statement posted on X, the command said the Joint Task Force-Western Hemisphere, acting on the orders of the U.S. Southern Command, carried out the strike on Sept. 9 against a speedboat operating along known drug-trafficking routes in the Caribbean region.
It added that confirmed intelligence indicated that the boat was involved in drug-trafficking operations, noting that the operation resulted in the deaths of three people it described as “terrorists involved in the drug trade.”
In September 2025, Washington announced that 11 people had been killed in a strike on a boat off the coast of Venezuela. Further strikes followed in the region in subsequent months, prompting debate over the legal basis for using military force against drug traffickers instead of intercepting the boats and arresting their passengers.
