Doha, Sept 07(SANA) Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham discussed Monday developments in Palestine and the recent escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions during a phone call, Qatar News Agency reported.
The two leaders exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, particularly developments related to the Palestinian cause and efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution.
They discussed the recent escalation in the Strait of Hormuz and its repercussions for the region and international maritime navigation.
The two sides stressed the importance of reducing tensions and prioritizing dialogue and diplomatic solutions in ways that contribute to strengthening regional security and stability.
Sheikh Tamim and Burnham also reviewed bilateral relations between Qatar and the United Kingdom and ways to support and strengthen cooperation in various fields.
Earlier this month, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry warned that the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz would lead to further regional escalation.
The ministry said Qatar was continuing regional and international efforts and contacts aimed at reducing tensions.
