Moscow, Sept. 4 (SANA) Russia warned Friday that any Western weapons production facilities established in Ukraine would become legitimate targets for its armed forces, amid reports of plans to manufacture long-range missiles in the country.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was monitoring and verifying reports of plans to establish a production line for long-range missiles on Ukrainian territory.
“Any such facilities on Ukrainian territory will become legitimate targets for the Russian Armed Forces,” Peskov was quoted as saying by Sputnik.
He said further Western efforts to expand weapons production in Ukraine would create additional problems for Kyiv.
Asked about prospects for ending the conflict, Peskov said contacts were continuing and reiterated that Moscow remained prepared to pursue a peaceful settlement to achieve its objectives.
Peskov also rejected German accusations that Russia was behind an attempted attack involving an explosives-laden drone targeting Leipzig Airport on Aug. 4.
European countries in the “Coalition of the Willing” pledged in late August to continue providing military and financial support to Kyiv despite Russian warnings, as fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues.
