Riyadh, Sept. 30 (SANA) Saudi Arabia defeated Iraq 2-0 on Tuesday at Alinma Stadium in Jeddah in the third and final round of the group stage of the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup football tournament.
Abdullah al-Salem opened the scoring for Saudi Arabia in the 54th minute before Abdullah al-Hamdan doubled the lead in the 69th, securing a third consecutive victory for the hosts.
The result saw Saudi Arabia finish top of Group A with a perfect nine points.
Iraq, meanwhile, remained on four points in second place, level with Oman, which defeated Kuwait 3-1 in the other group match.
With Iraq and Oman level on the relevant standings criteria, Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat reported that the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation will hold a draw to determine which team advances to the next round.
