Capitals, Sep.2 (SANA) Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan on Wednesday condemned Iran’s attack on the Saudi-flagged tanker Sidr while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in deaths among its crew, describing the incident as a violation of international law and a threat to maritime navigation and global energy supplies.
In a statement on its website, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its categorical rejection of using the Strait of Hormuz as a means of exerting pressure and called for its reopening without conditions. The ministry stressed that freedom of navigation through the vital waterway is an established principle that cannot be compromised, warning that its continued closure threatens the vital interests of countries in the region and the global economy.
The ministry also called for an end to Iranian attacks on the property of neighboring countries and affirmed Qatar’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for measures taken to safeguard its property and interests.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called- in a statement on X- for an immediate halt to all escalatory actions and compliance with international law guaranteeing freedom of navigation. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s rejection of any attack that threatens the security and safety of maritime navigation.
The Kuwaiti ministry also expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and support for measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its security and interests.
Jordan, for its part, condemned Iran’s targeting of the Saudi tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, describing the attack as a blatant violation of international law and a threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation.
Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates affirmed in its statement on X, the kingdom’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to protect its security, stability and resources.
Earlier on Wednesday, Saudi Arabia also condemned Iran’s attack on the Sidr tanker while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which resulted in deaths among its crew, and called for an end to escalation and respect for the security of international navigation and global energy supplies.
The Saudi National Shipping Company announced earlier Wednesday that two people were killed after the tanker Sidr came under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday.
