Jakarta, Aug. 18 (SANA) A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Sumatra coast Tuesday, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said.
The quake occurred at a depth of 29 kilometers, with no casualties or material damage reported. No tsunami warning was issued.
On Saturday, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck eastern Indonesia, killing 68 people and triggering around 341 aftershocks.
Indonesia, home to around 290 million people, lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, a zone of intense seismic and volcanic activity that makes it prone to earthquakes and eruptions.
