Funeral held for 112 victims recovered from beneath the rubble in Gaza

Occupied Jerusalem, Aug. 5 (SANA)  Palestinians in Gaza City on Tuesday held a funeral for 112 members of a single family (the Abu Sharia al-Hassayna family) whose bodies were recently recovered from beneath rubble left by Israeli bombardment in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), thousands of Palestinians participated in the funeral procession for the victims, who were killed earlier and whose bodies were later recovered from the ruins of their homes destroyed in the bombardment.

The victims were buried at Sheikh Shaaban Cemetery in central Gaza City, according to local sources. The sources said the funeral took place amid an atmosphere of grief and condemnation of the Israeli occupation’s crimes.

Among those buried were 44 children, 37 women, 23 elderly people and seven people with disabilities, the sources added.

Sources from the family said the number of members of the Abu Sharia al-Hassayna family killed since the beginning of the Israeli aggression has reached 308. They said that the systematic bombardment targeted members of different age groups.

The family sources added that their homes had been subjected to a series of airstrikes since October 2023, with the most severe attack involving heavy bombardment of a residential block in the al-Sabra neighborhood.

They said the bodies remained trapped beneath the rubble for several months, while the fate of 41 other family members remains unknown.

The death toll from the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip has risen to more than 73,000, in addition to tens of thousands of wounded and missing people, amid widespread destruction affecting infrastructure and residential areas across the Strip.
