72,608 lives lost: Gaza’s death toll climbs as ‘ceasefire’ fails to halt the dying
Palestinian rescue teams search through the ruins of a destroyed building in the Gaza Strip

Occupied Jerusalem, May 2 (SANA) The death toll from the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip has risen to 72,608, with 172,445 wounded, since the start of the offensive on October 7, 2023.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated in a statement on Saturday that hospitals in the Strip received 7 dead and 26 wounded in the past 24 hours, noting that a number of victims remain under the rubble and in the streets, as ambulance and rescue teams have been unable to reach them.

This brings the total number of Palestinian deaths since the ceasefire that went into effect on October 10 to 828, in addition to 2,342 wounded, while 767 bodies have been recovered.

Since the start of the Israeli offensive in October 2023, the Gaza Strip has faced a widespread collapse of its health system, following the destruction of hundreds of medical facilities, the closure of most hospitals, a shortage of medicines, and restrictions on the entry of aid and the prevention of medical supplies from reaching the Strip.
