Arab Capitals, June 1 (SANA) Arab governments and regional organizations on Monday condemned Israel’s intensified military offensive in Lebanon, calling for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces and urgent international action to prevent further escalation.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun described the latest Israeli attacks as a “vicious and reprehensible aggression” following Israel’s capture of Beaufort Castle, saying Lebanon would continue efforts to end the suffering of its people, particularly in the country’s south.
The statements came ahead of an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Lebanon, amid growing regional concern over continued Israeli attacks, expanded ground operations and civilian casualties.
Egypt, Qatar and Jordan called for an immediate halt to military operations, full implementation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1701 and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit also condemned the offensive and urged the international community to act swiftly to secure a ceasefire, support Lebanon’s stability and ensure Israel’s withdrawal from southern Lebanon.
European leaders also voiced concern over the escalation. French President Emmanuel Macron said nothing justified the current military escalation and called for a permanent end to the fighting, while German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul warned that further deterioration could deepen the humanitarian crisis and trigger additional displacement.
The reactions reflect growing Arab and international concern that the conflict could expand and further destabilize the region.
