Three cargo ships hit by drone attack in Black Sea off Türkiye, crews unharmed

Istanbul, May 29 (SANA) Three commercial cargo ships came under a drone attack in the Black Sea off Türkiye‘s northern coast on Thursday, maritime monitoring agency Tribeca said, adding that no injuries were reported among their crews.

The vessels were sailing without cargo when they were targeted near the Turkish port of Sinop, according to Tribeca, which was cited by Agence France-Presse (AFP).

Turkish Coast Guard vessels responded to the incident and secured the ships, while preliminary assessments indicated that all crew members were safe, the agency said.

The vessels were identified as the James II, sailing under the flag of Palau, and the Altura and Vilora, both flying the flag of Sierra Leone. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident comes amid continuing security risks in the Black Sea, where maritime traffic and commercial shipping have faced repeated disruptions since the start of the Russia–Ukraine war in February 2022.
