Beirut, May 25 (SANA) Israeli air strikes killed five people in southern Lebanon on Monday, Lebanese state media reported, amid ongoing cross-border hostilities despite a ceasefire agreement.
Lebanon’s National News Agency said Israeli drones carried out three strikes targeting two vehicles and a motorcycle in the Nabatieh district, killing three people.
The strikes hit a vehicle on the Kfarreman-Jarmaq highway, another on the Jarmaq-Khardali road, and a motorcycle near a hotel on the Kfarreman-Jarmaq highway, the agency said.
In a separate strike, two people were killed and another wounded after an Israeli warplane hit a house in the town of Seir al-Gharbiyeh, completely destroying the building.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said on Sunday that the death toll from Israeli attacks on Lebanon since March 2 had risen to 3,151, with 9,571 others wounded.
The U.S. State Department announced on May 15 that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to extend their ceasefire for 45 days following what it described as “highly productive” talks hosted by Washington over two days.
State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott said the third round of talks between Israel and Lebanon resulted in an agreement to extend the cessation of hostilities reached on April 16 for an additional 45 days to allow more time for progress in negotiations.
