Prague, May 23 (SANA) Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi on Saturday stressed the importance of protecting maritime and air routes, ensuring freedom of navigation, safeguarding supply chains, and maintaining the stability of global energy markets.
Speaking at a session on Gulf–European relations on the sidelines of the Global Security Forum 2026 in Prague (GLOBSEC), Al-Budaiwi said recent regional developments have had a significant impact on security and stability.
He noted that GCC member states have continued efforts to de-escalate tensions and strengthen dialogue and diplomacy in order to safeguard regional security and the safety of their citizens.
Al-Budaiwi underlined that Gulf stability is a cornerstone of the global economy and international navigation, warning that any disruption to maritime routes in the region would immediately affect European economies, energy markets, and global supply chains.
He added that security in Europe and the Middle East is increasingly interconnected, making Gulf stability a shared international priority.
Last Saturday, at the EU–Gulf Geopolitical and Investment Summit in Greece, Al-Budaiwi stressed the need to enhance regional and international cooperation and share expertise to support security and stability at both regional and global levels.
